The Eco Schools Green Flag is an accreditation which is awarded after a school showcases their work towards 7 steps of environmental action. At Castle Mead Academy, our committed Eco Team focused on the topics of marine, biodiversity and global citizenship. We are delighted to renew our green flag accreditation this year with distinction!

It’s fantastic that you have such a large Eco-Committee in your school, it shows that your pupils clearly care about our planet and all plants, animals, and insects that live on it.

We took great pleasure in reading the insightful comments on your Environmental Review, they provided a wonderful insight into the discussions that took place whilst your Eco-Committee completed it. The thought-provoking questions submitted by your Eco-Committee for next year’s Environmental Review demonstrate intelligence and insight! We greatly appreciate their contribution and will certainly consider them when updating this resource for next year. Thank you!

The examples provided in your application are brilliant, you have used environmental issues to add an engaging, real-life context to learning in your school. This approach will enrich pupils’ education whilst helping them understand the pressing issues our planet faces!

Your school has truly gone above and beyond to make environmental education engaging for young people.

Your Eco-Committee’s efforts to inform their school community are brilliant, especially well done to them for having the bravery to deliver an assembly about their work, as well as hosting the Eco-School Roadshow – this can be quite a nerve-wracking experience! You have worked with a wide variety of individuals, organisations, and experts during your Eco-Schools journey. This can be difficult to organise but will have massively benefitted and enriched your Eco-Schools work. Your Eco-Schools noticeboard looks fantastic, with lots of data demonstrating the positive impacts you and your Eco-Committee have created. You state that the most significant success of your Eco-Schools work was winning the Judges Choice Award at Leicester City Council’s Eco-School celebration, and we agree that this is a phenomenal achievement!

You consistently strive to make a positive impact and that’s truly inspiring. We love your collaborative approach to creating an Eco-Code, this approach has allowed young people to take ownership and create a statement for their school that is treasured by all. Your Eco-Code serves as a motivational, direct call to action for protecting our planet. There are so many highlights throughout your application, it has been an absolute joy to assess.
